PERIODS 2, 4, and 6

Though we had Interim Assessments today, you are still responsible for your Breaking Dawn readings.  For today, you had to complete chapters 22 & 23, and for Wednesday, you need to read chapters 24 & 25.  Your quiz on Wednesday will be for all four chapters :)

Great job today!  Even with all the computer glitches, you still did amazing!

ALL STUDENTS - This needs your attention

Effective IMMEDIATELY - If you have an in-house activity, and there is a test that day, you MUST come to class for the test (we will let you leave right after the test)!  If you don't, it's a ZERO!  If you have a game or a field trip on the day of a test, you must take it on an earlier day (either after school or at lunch - no more making up tests during class time).  If you don't, it's a zero.

You know that Mrs. Curbelo and I would do ANYTHING to support you...and that we have really been trying to work around your schedule the last few weeks to facilitate your needs...but we just can't do it anymore.  So just as we make YOU and YOUR LEARNING a priority, you need to make YOUR LEARNING a priority.

Know that we love you...ALWAYS!

Extra credit, BTW, for anyone that can tell me which syntactical structure I used :)

Vocab HW - All Periods

First, you need to write all your Unit 5 words and roots (their definitions and parts of speech) in your vocab journal.  Find two synonyms and one antonym for each and write them next to the word.

Next, you will create Taboo cards for your vocab words.   There should be one card per word (no need to do them for the roots).  On the front of the card, create your own logo.  Give your game a name (not Taboo).  Each card should have this logo on the front.  On the back, you will create a Taboo-type card.  The vocab word is the word that goes on the top.  The "taboo" words will be the key words of the definition, your synonyms and antonym.

English II - Click here to access your Unit 5 list
AP - Click here to access your Unit 5 list
Both Classes - To see a sample of a Taboo card, click here.

You can write them or type them.  These are due THIS Wednesday(periods 1, 3 & 5) and THIS Thursday (periods 2, 4 & 6).  If you are going on a field trip, we need them BEFORE you leave...not when you return.

REVISED: HW Update for All Classes!

Our classes are so rushed (don't know how that's possible with two hours), so we wanted to get a reminder out regarding HW.

For all classes - Remember to do your three sessions of Reading Plus. If you don't like your comprehension grade, you can always print out the activities in Reading Plus and do them :)

Period 1 - We are going to finish our PPTs on Monday. In addition, do not worry about your bookmark just yet (we can push it back until Friday or the following Tuesday). We will work on getting that organized on Monday. However, you should read chapters 19-20 for Monday...and study for your fourth vocab test, which is also on Monday. Remember to review ALL roots and your previous vocab words too.

Periods 2, 4 and 6 - We are going to do our PPTs tomorrow, as well as an activity for chapters 16-18.  We will also get you into groups for the bookmark for chapters 19-22 (which is due on Thursday, October 20).  Your vocab test will be Tuesday, so remember to review ALL roots and your previous vocab words too.   You need to read chapters 19-20 for Monday as well.

Periods 3 & 5 - You also have a ton to do this week.  On Monday, you need to turn in your bookmarks for TSL 1-5, and IM P-4, and you need to be ready for an activity or assessment on TSL 4-5 and IM 3-4 when you walk in the door. No cutting corners!  We will view your PPTs as a review for your vocab test, which you will also take on Monday.  Remember to study ALL words and ALL roots from ALL four units.

Use your time wisely!  Don't wait until the night before to do all these tasks.

Much love :)

Periods 2 & 4--Important Information

Because of the PSAT administration, you will not have a quiz on chapters 16, 17, & 18 of Breaking Dawn on Wednesday; we will quiz you on Friday, instead.

Nonetheless, your bookmarks are still due at the beginning of class on Wednesday, before PSAT testing begins.

Your vocabulary PowerPoint presentations are due on Friday, 10/14, and we will quiz you on vocabulary next Tuesday, 10/18.

Extra Credit Opportunity & New Words of the Day

On October 12th and 13th, our very own drama students will be presenting Seven Shows About Stuff.  If you attend and write a brief critique, you will earn extra credit (save your ticket stubs).  It's in our auditorium at 6 p.m. on those two nights.  Tickets are $5 and will be sold at the door!  Don't miss seeing your classmates perform!  I look forward to seeing you there!

Here is the Word of the Day presentation for this week :)

Due 10/12 or 10/13

For your Breaking Dawn bookmark for chapters 14-18, you need to create your own.  However, there are some guidelines:

Side 1: TOP - include the title of the novel and the chapters; MIDDLE - As you read, look for how our vocab words from Unit 4 relate to the text (you are NOT looking for the word...just how certain words could apply)..then write each of the seven words and explain how they relate; BOTTOM - your name and period number
Side 2; TOP - a title of two to four words that encompasses all five chapters (must utilize a lit tool or syntactical structure in the title); MIDDLE - an image (drawn or a graphic) that depicts your title; BOTTOM - 7 lit tools/syntactical structures found in these chapters (3 from Necessary Nine and 4 from our new set).

This must be typed (except for the drawing), and should be no bigger than 3.5" by 11"

Have fun!  Be creative, and make it POP!  Add the MC2R flair!

When you score your writing baseline, be sure to highlight the elements of your paper that exemplify Focus, Organization, Support, and Conventions, make marginal notes, and write the score you give your paper at the top of the sheet and circle it.  ;o)
