Periods 3 & 5 Lit Tool Retake

OK, so you bombed your first test! Never fear! You will be able to retake a similar test on Thursday, 9/8, during lunch.

I only have 38 spots, so it's on a first-come-first-served basis. How do you get in on the action? Well, you need to be one of the first 38 students to submit an entry pass. Your entry pass is the lit terms listed below written out (not typed) three times each (term, definition and example)...in YOUR handwriting! Once you give that to me, I will give you a slip to get in. On that day, the test will begin PROMPTLY at 11:30. If you are not here at that time, sorry.

Oh, don't forget to bring a lunch or a snack...as you may be here all period (that depends more on you than me).

Here is your list: ad hominen, allegory, alliteration, allusion, analogy, anaphora, aphorism, apostrophe, assonance, asyndeton, chiasmus, connotation, denotation, encomium, ethos, euphemism, hyperbole, litotes, logos, meiosis, metaphor, metonymy, onomatopoeia, oxymoron, paradox, parallelism, pathos, personification, pun, sarcasm, satire, simile, syllogism, symbolism, synecdoche, syntax, zeugma

OK, so your emergency assignment for tonight is to make sure that you are able to gain access to your Student Portal on dadeschools.net. If you have any issues with your password and such, be sure to follow the directions on the password page. You are going to need your Student Portal for some of our lessons this week.

Your first EXTRA CREDIT assignment is to become a follower of our blog! Once you become a follower, you will always get a notification when we post!

AP/Cambridge English HW Due 8/30/11

Period 5 for Mrs. Curbelo and Mrs. Rodriguez, as well as C-Rod's 3rd period, HERE IS YOUR HW:

For your AP Summer Words to Know Test, you need to do test corrections FIVE TIMES FOR EACH QUESTION YOU GOT WRONG. For questions 1-18, you need to write the correct term, the definition, and the example I provided in the question. For questions 19-25, you need to write the term, the correct definition, and your example. Understand that if you got any portion of the question wrong, you MUST do all three (word, definition, example).

No typing, sorry. Be sure to BE PRECISE (which means we want to see neat work). In addition, when you submit your corrections, they must be stapled on TOP of your actual test.

GOOD LUCK :o) We promise it will get better. This is just so you learn the concepts needed to succeed in our class, on your exams, and in college!

For Our Superstar Student Readers!

All Classes: For each of the four quarters, MC2R (Monica Curbelo/Christine Rodriguez, your superstar teachers) have plans to read one novel (or more). By the end of the year, you will have at least four novels under your belt (six...if you count your summer reading)! Woohoo! With that said, here is the selection for the first quarter:

English II H/General Paper - Breaking Dawn; AP/Cambridge English Language - The Scarlet Letter

We will begin reading these mid-September, so you need to obtain a copy SOON. You can borrow one from a friend or any Dade Schools or Dade County library, you can buy your own copy online or at a bookstore, or we can order one for you. If you choose to have us order your copy, you need to bring in your money by September, 2nd. It's $8.50 for Breaking Dawn, and it's $4 for The Scarlett Letter. MC2R will write you a receipt, and you will have your copy by 9/7. All students will need a copy of their novel by 9/7.

Looking forward to this STELLAR learning/reading experience!
